Wow-weee did we have fun guest judging two new shows of Craft Masters produced by Michaels Craft Stores. Our first episode goes live online tomorrow. Keep reading to see a sneak peek behind the scenes and to view the trailer!

We flew out to the Big D for taping.

We made it into Dallas with just enough time to walk over to Joe's Crab Shack for some grub! It was super yummy. Yep, I am wearing ear muffs....it was freezing for us Southern Cali peeps!

The set.....so pretty! I wish my space was this clean....

Ready, Set - GO! Jo and the Michaels crew is the best ever. They are all so fun and nice....and we just have a great time with them.

So cute and simple to make!

These were designed for Plaid and we used Folkart Crackle Medium to achieve the crackle look! The mini pom pom trim was some scrap trim. I think I originally got it at Jo-Anns.

Perfect for gift giving!

Supplies:
Folkart – Artists Pigment Black 479
Folkart Acrylic Paint Metallic Gunmetal Gray 667
Mod Podge Gloss
Dimensional Magic
Chain
1.5” Wooden Nickel Disk
Paintbrush – detail
Laser Copied Photo (shrunken to fit the wooden nickel)
Marvy Circle Punch 1.5”
Foam Paintbrush
Rhinestones – Various Sizes and Colors
Pliers
Heavyduty Glue – E6000
Scrap Piece of Paper or Felt
2 Yards Vintage Seam Binding or Soft Ribbon

Steps:1. Begin by painting the wooden nickel disk with black paint. Once dry, paint the rim of the disk with metallic gray paint. Dry-brush for an antique look.

2. Punch the copied photo with the circle punch. Coat the back of the punched photo with Mod Podge. Position the paper on the wood disk. Press with your fingers to remove any air bubbles. Top-coat with a layer of Mod Podge. Allow to dry.

3. Glue the rhinestones around the top edge of the disk with Mod Podge. Allow the glue to dry.

4. Apply a thin coat of Dimensional Magic to the top of the disk. Apply over the image from edge to edge. Allow to dry in a non-drafty place. Don’t move until dry.

5. Using pliers, remove one large link from the chain. Using heavy-duty glue, glue 1/2 of the link to the top center back of the wood disk. Glue a scrap of paper or felt over the ring to hid it.

6. Cut a 4” piece from the seam binding. With strip, tie the pendant to the center of the chain. Cut the remaining piece of seam binding in half. Thread each one through the ends of the chain and tie in a knot. To wear, tie around the neck.

DIY: Christmas and Hanukkah baby onesies!

Holiday tee aren't just for grown ups! Whip up a plain baby snapsuit (Gerber Onesies) into a holiday themed one with applique, tie-dye and embroidery.

Santa Baby Materials:
Red Baby Snapsuit (or a dyed one)
Santa Themed Fabric
Fusible Webbing
Iron
Sewing Machine
Hand Needle and Thread
Pom-pom

Steps:1. Using an iron, attach fusible webbing to the back of Santa themed fabric. Cut around the Santa motif. Position the motif in the top center of the snapsuit and attach with an iron.

2. Sew around the Santa motif with a straight, zig-zag or satin stitch. If you don't have a machine, hand sew to secure the edges with thread or embroidery floss.

3. Hand sew a pom-pom to the top of Santa's hat.

Spin Baby (Hanukkah) Materials:
White Baby Snapsuit
RIT Turquoise Fabric Dye
Rubber-band
Felt Square - baby blue
Embroidery Floss and Needle

Steps:1. Using a rubber-band and turquoise fabric dye, tie-dye a circle in the front center of a snapsuit.

2. Cut a dreidel shape from felt. Position the shape in the dyed circle. Using a satin stitch, embroider the the Hebrew letter Nun, the Gimel, Hei, or Shin over the felt shape.

DIY Halloween place setting made with scrapbook paper and Mod Podge!

Anyone who has been to my house for a holiday meal, knows that I "heart" chargers - as nuts as it sounds....I really do just like the way they frame a plate. So when I was working on Halloween ideas and came across black chargers at the dollar store...I was a bit smitten and inspired!

You only need a few things...... {{Gather This}}

Glass Plate
Pencil
Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge
Foam Paintbrush

Torn Book Pages
Folkart Metallic Paint in Silver
Paper Towel

Begin by tracing a circle from scrapbook paper. This should be sized to fit the base of the plate.

Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the printed side of the paper.

Apply a second coat of Mod Podge to the back of the paper.

Place the paper in the center (backside) of the plate. Press any air bubbles with your fingers, smooth your brushstrokes. Use a damp paper towel to clean any Mod Podge that is brushed over the edge of the paper. Allow to dry. Hand wash the top only with a damp rag. Don't submerge in water.

Working on the charger, Mod Podge torn book pages around the center of the charger. Allow to dry.

Scrunch a damp paper towel into a ball. Dip the paper towel into silver paint. Tap paint around the edges. Allow to dry.

Finished Charger.

Layer the plate over the charger.

Make This: Frida Inspired Day of the Dead Skull

Paper-mache Skull for Day of The Dead.

I love Mod Podging with old book pages....they create such interesting textures and prints. I usually pick up used paperbacks at my local thrift shop for under 50 cents. My favorite are the old romance novels....they are so fun to read while you craft! LOL.This was designed for Plaid and was featured in our 2011 Halloween designs. You can see our page at Plaid here.

{Gather This}For this project you will only need a few supplies.....

Paper-mache skull (this was from Michaels)

Old book pages (cut into small squares)

Mod Podge Gloss

Foam Paintbrush

Hot Glue Gun Helpers

Hot Glue

Lace

Paper Flowers

Feather Trim

Sturdy Paper Box

Folkart Acrylic Paint - 661 Metallic Sequin Black

Folkart Acrylic Paint – 2578 Leaf Green

Coat the backand front of the book pages with Mod Podge, position onto the skull, smooth any airbubbles with your finger and top coat with a layer of Mod Podge. Continueadding more papers until the entire skull is covered. Allow to Dry.

Cut a strip of lace to be the veil.Gather the lace with your fingers and attach using hot glue. Be sure to wear Hot Glue Gun Helpers so you don't burn your finger.

Hot glue feathers, flowers and other embellishments. {{see the broken earring glued to the side?}} You can embellish the skull with almost anything that fits the theme.

Texture the top of the box by thickly applying random pounces of Mod Podge. Allow to dry.

Dip the foam paintbrush into leaf green paint, tapoff the excess and tap onto the top of the box in a distressed fashion.

Paint the baseof the box with a foam paintbrush and black paint.

Hot glue the skull to the top of the box. Add more flowers and feathers around the base of the skull.

Make a Mummy hand from a Kitchen Glove using Glow in the Dark Mod Podge.

Transform a dollar store kitchen glove into a glow in the dark mummy hand with just a few simple supplies and Glow-in-the-Dark Mod Podge.

Love the Glow Mod Podge!

Gather This:
Rubber kitchen glove
Pillow stuffing
String
Scissors
2 yards cheesecloth
Foam paintbrush
Mod Podge Glow-in-the-Dark
Paintbrush – soft bristles
FolkArt Fabric Paint - Brush On - Fawn

Instructions:

Firmly stuff the rubber glove with pillow stuffing.

Tie the opening closed with a piece of string.

Cut the cheesecloth into strips about 2” wide. Wrap the strips around the glove and fingers, overlapping and crisscrossing as you go.

Using a foam paintbrush apply two coats of Mod Podge all over the glove. Add more cheesecloth & Mod Podge to fill in any empty spots. Allow to dry.

Working with a dry soft bristle paintbrush, lightly apply Fawn over the entire glove. You can add depth by adding more paint in between the fingers. Allow to dry.

Top coat the glove with a third coat of Mod Podge and allow to dry.

Top Pumpkin Carving Tips

1. When choosing a pumpkin to buy, avoid ones with bruises or moldy stems; these will not last as long.

2. When cutting the top of the pumpkin, angle the point of your knife toward the stem. This gives the lid a place to sit and will prevent it from falling through the hole.

3. If the cut edges of your jack-o-lantern are curling, re-hydrate the pumpkin by soaking it in a tub of water overnight. After removing, allow the pumpkin to drain for half an hour and pat dry.

4. Soaking your pumpkin in a solution of one teaspoon bleach per gallon of water will help inhibit mold growth.

5. While your jack-o-lantern is on display, periodically mist it with water to help keep it hydrated.

6. Covering a jack-o-lantern with a damp towel will keep it hydrated when it is not on display.

7. At night, wrap your jack-o-lanterns in plastic and refrigerate. This will slow the aging process.

8. After carving, coat the cut edges and the inside of the jack-o-lantern with petroleum jelly. This will help seal in moisture. Vegetable oil can also be used.

9. There are also commercially available sprays and dips that will keep your jack-o-lantern fresh longer.

10. Spraying hairspray on the inside of your pumpkin will help increase its life span.

11. Sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg on the underside of the pumpkin top for a nice scent when the candle inside your jack-o-lantern is lit.

Hot Glue Gun Helpers on NBC - Parks and Recreations

Steve and I had so much fun crafting the set decorations for tonight's episode of Parks and Recreations (which is one of my favorite TV shows). They needed camp crafts as per the script and that is what we delivered. We worked with the production design team to make their vision come to life. Have a sneak look at the set here.....and tune in tonight. We were also thrilled that the decorator used our Hot Glue Gun Helpers as a part of the set design.PS. Word on the set is that Amy Poehler loved the crafts!!!

DIY Ghostly Candy Bowl

DIY Ghostly Candy Bowl

Materials:

Large clear plastic bowl

Cheesecloth – 2 yards

Foam paintbrush

Mod Podge ® Gloss, 16 oz.

Plaid ® Hot Glue Gun Helpers

Hot glue

Lace

Feathers

Ornament balls

Paper flowers

Place the bowl upside down on a tall sturdy object so it is about 5” from your work surface. Coat the outside of the bowl with a thick layer of Mod Podge.

Here is a side view...

Cut the cheesecloth into 5 pieces; place the pieces in the Mod Podge on the bowl. (let the pieces hand over the edge in a ghostly manor) Add more Mod Podge to the cheesecloth until it is completely glued to the bowl. Allow to dry.

Add more Mod Podge to the cheesecloth if needed.

Using hot glue and Hot Glue Gun Helpers attach lace, feathers, balls, flowers, etc. to the edge of the bowl. Fill with candy.

Michaels Rewards Appearance: Recap, Pics and Behind the Scenes

Steve and I headed out last week to Atlanta... aka Hotlanta! We were so excited because we were doing an in-store appearance to celebrate the new Michaels Rewards Program. (This program rules!!! - should be nation wide in Spring 2012). The video from our live streaming should be archived here in the near future.

Day 1: Arrived at Plaid! We had a busy day of meetings! Planning lots of new and exciting products and craft ideas.

Next Stop was dinner! I had the fish tacos and they were delish! Denice had the taco salad....I had to snap a pic cause it was so awesome!

Morning Meetings and then into the Makeup Chair! Faith Brooks was the makeup artist. She was so lovely and nice....and good at Make-up too! You can see her website here.

Amy (Mod Podge Rocks) and I are showing off our make-up. I love our tops together. :)

Steve was busy setting up....while we were dolling up.

Us with Michael Duncan the Creative Director for Michaels Craft Stores. He is an amazing artist too!

Going Live.......

Our segment was all about Moe Podge and Dimensional Magic.

There is sweet Jo for Michaels. I heart her! So much fun and soooooo creative.

Lots of crafters showed up for make and takes.

This little cutie was so talented. She made each project and was so cute! Only 4 years old!

She was so sweet and crafty! and she had a Hello Kitty necklace......

Crafter, Recycler and Facebook Friend Betty came to see us and we were so thrilled. Ya know when you chat with someone online and you finally get to see them in real life. So fun and we are so grateful....she traveled 2 hours to attend! BTW - her hubby was waiting in the wings. Good GUY!

Plaid Craft TV: Strawberry Painted Sneakers

In this episode of Plaid Craft TV we are freehand painting strawberries and daisies onto garden sneakers. They are very simple to make and the same technique can be used on almost any surface...wood, glass, clay pots, etc.

Materials to Gather:
Flat Top Slip-on Sneakers
FolkArt Fabric Paint – 4415 Yellow Citron
FolkArt Fabric Paint – 4414 Yellow Light
FolkArt Fabric Paint – 4403 Magenta
FolkArt Fabric Paint – 4417 Hauser Green Medium
FolkArt Acrylic Paint – 480 Titanium White
Detail Paintbrush
Medium Flat Paintbrush

To Make:
1. Using a medium paintbrush and Magenta paint, paint a narrow heart shape for each berry you want to paint. Add paint across the top to fill in the heart and for a berry. Blend a tiny amount of White paint into the Magenta paint. This will create a lighter shade. Using the same brush, paint over the berries with the lighter color. Paint only on one side of the berry. This creates a highlight as if the sun was hitting the berry. Using the detail brush and white paint, paint the seeds of the berry over the highlighted areas. Allow to dry.

2. Paint the flowers, by dipping the medium brush into Yellow Light paint, tap off the excess paint. Paint 5 petals for each daisy. For small daisies, just paint little tiny buds. Blend a small layer of White over the yellow to add highlights. Dip the handle end of the paintbrush into Magenta paint, swirl the paint on the center of each flower. Allow to dry.

3. Using a detail paintbrush and Yellow Citron paint, paint free flowing vines and stems for the strawberries and flowers. Use the same paint to paint stems on the berries. Paint small notches to be buds. Using Hauser Green and a detail brush, paint stems top and leaves to the vines. Allow to dry.

4. Add gems to the center of the flowers with gem glue.
Segment 3 - Bonus Idea: Plaid and Berry Sneakers

Bonus Designs:

1. For the plaid shoes: Load half the paintbrush with Magenta paint and the other half with Yellow Light paint. Paint vertical stripes down the front of the shoe. Leave a little space in between the stripes. Using a detail brush and Yellow Citron, paint narrow strips in between the first painted stripes. Using the same detail brush, paint horizontal stripes over the vertical stripes. Use Magenta and Yellow Citron for the horizontal stripes. Use gem glue to attatch a crochet flower and gem.

2. For the large berry: Using a medium paintbrush and Magenta paint, paint a wide heart shape for each berry you want to paint. Add paint across the top to fill in the heart and for a berry. Blend a tiny amount of White paint into the Magenta paint. This will create a lighter shade. Using the same brush, paint over the berries with the lighter color. Paint only on one side of the berry. Plaid Craft TV: How to make a shabby birdhouse condo

In this episode of Plaid Craft TV we are transforming a plain wood bird house and some garden tools into a wind chime! Perfect for making some funky yard art! Our bonus idea is a sweet painted clay pot. (instructions for both are below) Steve and I were so thrilled to have fellow crafty friend, Stefanie Girard, joining us in the studio.

Steve and I met Stefanie years ago at a publishing event at CHA and although we get to play together, this was the first time we got to craft together. Stefanie is helping Steve with the chime and is making recycled sweater flowers from her book Sweater Surgery. Stefanie writes for many of my favorite crafty websites...craft gossip and craftside. She also invented this really cool binder for storing greeting cards. I was lucky enough to get a sample the other day...planning a post on that soon.

Kick back and enjoy the video! We made this one bright and cheery with bold colors.....but the same idea could be made rustic with crackle paint and worn out tools. Oh and we are using Outdoor Mod Podge...perfect for all weather projects.

Garden Tool Wind Chime

Materials to Gather:
1 Large Plaid Birdhouse
5 Eye Hooks

Foam Paintbrush
Detail Paintbrush

Paper Punches – Flower Shape
Scrapbook Paper

FolkArt Outdoor Sealer (Gloss or Satin)
Optional Embellishments: Recycled flowers, buttons, silk flowers

To Make:
1. Screw 4 eye hooks into each corner on the base of the birdhouse and 1 eye hook into the top center of the roof.

2. Paint the roof Engine Red, the base of the house Lime Green and body of the house Baby Pink.

3. Using Lime Green paint and a detail brush, paint flower stems on the front of the house. Using Mod Podge Outdoor, apply paper-punched flowers to the tops of the stems.

4. Trim the scrapbook paper to fit around the handles of the shovels. Coat the back of the paper with Mod Podge Outdoor, wrap the paper around the handles, smooth the paper with your fingers and topcoat with a layer of Mod Podge.

5. Topcoat the entire birdhouse and shovels with FolkArt Outdoor Sealer.

6. Attach the shovels to the eyehooks with fishing line. Add additional embellishments to the birdhouse.

Bonus Idea: Painted Clay Pot

To Make:
1. Paint the base of a cleaned clay pot Whicker White. Dip the 1” brush into Baby Pink paint and paint stripes down the sides of the pot. (leave a white spot for painting the bird) Paint the rim of the pot with Burnt Umber.

2. To make the bird, pant a simple bird body in the white section. Use a detail paintbrush to paint a wing, feet and a beak in Burnt Umber. Us the same brush to paint an outline around the design.

We added reindeer moss, paper flowers and tiny birds to the condo with hot glue and of course we used Hot Glue Gun Helpers so we didn't burn our fingers. To Make:
1. Paint all the roofs with Calypso Sky. Paint two if the matching houses Lime Green. Paint the other matching house Lemon Custard. Paint the topper house Baby Pink. Paint details like stripes or polka-dots onto each house.

2. Faux patina the roof by dipping a scrunched up paper towel into Light Blue and Sterling Silver paint. Dap the paper towel onto the roofs of the houses.

3. Paint a layer of Crackle Medium over each house and roof. Allow the Crackle Medium to dry thoroughly. This is very important.

4. Blend 1-part Blending Gel with 1-part Whicker White. Working quickly, paint the mixture over the entire house and roof. This will create a crackled wash. Repeat for each house.

5. Place two matching houses on your work surface (side by side), turn the other matching house upside down and glue the roof to the roofs of the other two houses. Glue the topper house the base of the upside down house.

6. Embellish the condo further by hot gluing moss, tiny birds, paper flowers and pearl sprays to the houses, roofs and openings.

We have some crafty ideas that will make any kid’s birthday party one to remember. We design a festive homemade banner that really spells success, make some noise with out-of-this-world party hats, and get the scoop on an ice cream birthday cake that’s just too cool.

Stiffened fabric “Happy Birthday” bunting banner.

Get your party started right with a cool, customized banner to announce the special occasion to everyone.

Supplies:
Fabric Scraps
5/8” wide ribbon
Felt – assorted colors
Stiffy fabric stiffener
Plastic wrap
Scissors
Cardstock (optional)
Pencil
Marker
Scallop shears or other decorative edged scissors
Letter stencils
Fabri-Tac glue
Glitter Paint
Dimensional paint
Embellishments: rhinestones, buttons, pipe cleaners, pom poms, etc.
Tacky glue or jewel glue
Pipe cleaners

Steps:
1. Cut 14 rectangles of fabric that are 12” x 7” and 14 rectangles that are 6” x 7”. (Use 14 rectangles to spell out the words “H-A-P-P-Y-*-B-I-R-T-H-D-A-Y, including a star spacer or use the appropriate number of rectangles for your message. The larger rectangles will be the pennants and the smaller rectangles will be used to cut out letter shapes). Use a mix-match group of fabrics for interest and variety. Lay the fabric pieces out on sheets of plastic wrap and brush the fabric stiffener on them. Allow to dry for approximately six hours (dry time will depend on the amount of fabric stiffener used).

2. Trim 14 of the large rectangles into triangles (pennant flag shape). Make a triangle template out of a piece of cardstock to help keep all of your pennants uniform, if desired. Use letter stencils or enlarged computer font printouts as templates for cutting out letters that spell “happy birthday” from 13 of your smaller rectangles. Cut a heart, star, or other design from the remaining smaller rectangle to act as a spacer in between the words “happy” and “birthday.”

3. Cut a backing piece out of felt for each letter and spacer shape, using your stencils as a guide. These should be slightly larger than the letters themselves. Mark the reversed letter shape on the back of the felt and use scallop shears or other decorative edged scissors to cut the felt.

4. Using fabric glue, glue each piece of felt to a pennant. Then glue each stiffened fabric letter on top of its corresponding piece of felt.

5. Add embellishments to each pennant. You can use glitter glue, dimensional paint, buttons, rhinestones, pompoms, and other trinkets. Use jewel glue or tacky glue to attach things like buttons and rhinestones.

6. Lay all of your finished pennants out, leaving as much space in between each pennant as you will need so that the finished banner will stretch across the space you plan to hang it. (We spaced ours out about 1” apart.) Cut a piece of ribbon that is long enough to stretch across all of your pennants, leaving yourself enough extra ribbon on each end so that you can hang it. Use fabric glue to adhere the top of each pennant to the back of the ribbon.

7. You can add extra embellishments by tying pipe cleaners to the ribbon in between each pennant.

Kids Paper Bag and Scrapbook Paper Hats

Celebrate in style with a party activity that brings out kids’ creative sides. These party hats are fun to make and even more fun to wear.

Project: Cone Party Hats
Supplies:
12” X 12” sheet of thick scrapbook paper or cardstock paper
Stapler
Scrapbooking eyelets
Scrapbooking eyelet setter
Craft hammer
Self-healing mat
Scissors
Elastic cording – 10 inches per hat
Decorations – streamers, glitter, paint, rhinestones, stickers, pompons, etc
Hot glue and glue gun

Steps:
1. Roll the sheet of scrapbook paper into a cone shape. Staple the bottom edge to secure and at the point as far as the stapler will reach. Use scissors and trim away the excess paper to make a rounded bottom on the hat and a smooth seam up the side of the hat. Add additional staples, if necessary.

2. Add an elastic chin strap: Working on a self-healing mat, use the eyelet hole punch and craft hammer to pierce each side at the base of the hat. Use the eyelet setter and craft hammer to attach two eyelets.

3. Thread the elastic cording through the front side of one of the eyelets and tie off on the inside. Stretch the cord across the base of the hat and insert the cord through the front of the eyelet and tie off on the inside of the hat. Decorate by hot gluing silk flowers, streamers, glitter, paint and embellishments.

Project: Paper Bag Hats
Supplies:
Grocery store paper bags
Scissors
Ribbons
Feathers
Pompoms
Pipe cleaners
Styrofoam balls
Tacky glue

Steps:
1. If the grocery bag has words on it, turn it inside out. Remove any handles. Building the brim: Gently roll down the top of a bag until it reaches the appropriate hat sides. Pinch the brim to adjust the fit.

2. Paint the hat with craft paint and a foam brush.

3. Decorate: add tons of decorations like pom-poms, pipe cleaners, feathers, paper cut outs, googly eyes. Make antennas by coiling the ends of pipe cleaners and poking the other end of the pipe cleaner through the hat and secure it on the inside with tape. Make planets with Styrofoam balls or pompoms.

Recycled Noise Makers

Get your party shaking with noisemakers fashioned from tin cans, beans, and the most colorful decorations you can imagine.

Supplies:
Tomato paste cans
Safety can opener (that leaves no rough edges)
Scrap fabric – 12x12”
Ribbons
Dried beans
Fabri-Tac glue

Steps:
1. Remove one end of the tomato paste can with a safety can opener and thoroughly wash and dry the can.

2. Apply a bead of Fabri-Tac glue to one edge of the fabric scrap and fold over the edge to form a glued hem.

3. Place the can horizontally at the other end of the fabric and roll until it meets the hemmed edge on the other side.

4. Apply another bead of glue and secure the fabric around the can.

5. Fill the can with a handful (approximately ¼ cup) of dried beans.

6. Pinch the fabric at each end and knot ribbon around the excess fabric. Decorate as you like.

7. Shake can to make noise and drive parents crazy.

Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Cake

Blow out the candles and dig in! Kids of all ages will love this ice cream cake with savory peanut butter cookie crust.

Ingredients:
Vegetable oil
9-inch Spring Form Pan
1 9-ounce package peanut butter cookies (approximately 3 cups)
¼ cup butter (1/2 stick) - melted
½ gallon vanilla ice cream
1 bag milk chocolate chunks or chips
Canned whipped cream and sprinkles for garnishing

Steps:
1. Oil the bottom and sides of the spring form pan with vegetable oil.

2. Crush the peanut butter cookies in food processor until very fine. Mix well with melted butter to make crust. Press wafer mixture in bottom of pan and freeze 10 to 15 minutes to set.

3. Microwave vanilla ice cream on low for 15-30 seconds. Spoon the ice cream into a mixing bowl. Add chocolate chunks and stir to blend well. Remove pan from freezer and smooth ice cream over cookie crust. Freeze for 20 minutes to set.

4. Cover with plastic wrap. Freeze for 3 hours or until firm. This can be made weeks in advance.

5. Ten minutes before serving, remove from freezer and place warm, wet towels around pan. Carefully remove the side of the pan. Decorate with chocolate and sprinkles.

To make the pirate lunch: crumple the bag and draw a “treasure map” with markers. Include fish-shaped snacks in a plastic bag, a “treasure sack” of gold coins, and sandwiches cut into shapes with cookie cutters.

Pretzel sticks
Toys or stickers

To make the fairy lunch: paint the front of the bag with lavender craft paint. Fold the top of the bag over and punch two holes. Include pretzel “fairy sticks,” “magic jelly beans,” cookie cutter sandwiches and a birthday note. Once the lunch is packed, fold the top of the bag over, thread a ribbon through the punched holes, and tie on an artificial flower.

Golden Birthday Ticket:

I.O.U. or coupon for a treat
Scrap booking paper

To make the golden birthday ticket bar: unwrap a chocolate bar, fold an I.O.U. or coupon for a treat and wrap it in the gold foil with the chocolate. Make a printed wrapper with scrap booking paper.

Creative Juice #603 - Vegas Baby!

Drilled Dice Bracelets

These dice are loaded with style as we turn them into bracelets, necklaces, and earrings sure to bring good luck.

Supplies:
5 Dice
Drill and 1/8" Drill Bit
Vice grip small strips of felt
E6000 glue
Jewelry stringing wire
Lobster clasp
Two crimp beads
Crimping tool
Jump ring
Seed, bugle, and crystal beads
Wire cutters
Round nosed pliers

Steps:
1. Attach the vice grip onto your work surface. Use E6000 to glue small strips of felt to each side of the vice to protect your dice from scratches. Place one die into vice grip. Drill through the die with the 1/8” bit. Keep the bit straight and perpendicular to your work surface , and don’t apply too much pressure—let the bit do the work. Remove the die from the vice grip. Repeat until you have drilled all the dice.

2. Cut a length of stringing wire that is 6” or so large than your wrist. String one end through one crimp bead, through the lobster clasp, and back through the crimp bead. Crimp using a crimping tool.

3. Add some seed beads, bugle beads, and glass beads to the string. Be sure that the first beads hide the end of the wire. String on the first die. Add additional string and bugle beads and another die. Continue the same pattern until all the dice are strung and the bracelet is long enough to reach around your wrist.

4. Thread the end of the stringing wire through a crimp bead, through a large jump ring, and then back through the crimp bead. Crimp with the crimping tool. Thread the end of the wire back through the last few beads and cut away any excess wire with the wire cutters.

5. The same dice drilling technique can be used to create dice beads to be used in earrings and necklaces.

Steps:
1. Purse front and back: Glue stick 8 cards to one sheet of 8.5 X 11 inch sheet of paper. Repeat for the second sheet of paper. Laminate the sheets, trim the excess lamination from the edges.

2. Purse bottom: Glue stick 4 cards across the 4.25 X 11 inch sheet of paper. Laminate the sheet, trim the excess lamination from the edges.

3. Purse sides: Glue stick 3 cards 4.25 X 8.5 inch pieces of paper. Laminate the sheets, trim the excess lamination from the edges.

4. Use an eyelet hole punch and an eyelet setter to attach the eyelets. Use a marking pen to mark each eyelet placement before setting them. On the sides of each panel that measure 11”, set the first eyelet ½” from the edge and set 11 eyelets total spaced an inch apart. On the sides of the panels that measure 4.25”, set the first eyelet at 5/8” from the edge and set 4 eyelets total spaced an inch apart. For the sides of the panels that measure 8 ½”, set the first eyelet ¾” from the edge and set 8 eyelets total spaced an inch apart.

5. Thread the ¼” ribbon through the yarn or plastic canvas needle. Beginning with the purse front and sides, lace them together with the 1/4” ribbon. At the first hole, leave a 5” tail of ribbon at the back of the hole to use for tying later. Lace through one side panel eyelet, through a front panel eyelet and repeat for security. Whipstitch the remaining holes together. Do decorative lacing at the top edges, where no panels are being laced together. Keep lacing and add the remaining side and back. After the sides, front and back panels have been laced together, tie off the end of the ribbon after lacing it twice through the last hole.

6. Next lace the bottom to the purse, using the same technique.

7. To make a handle: thread a length of the ¼” ribbon through each length of tubing by folding an end over a dowel or skewer and pushing it through the tubing. Tie each end of the ribbon through an eyelet at the top of the purse to secure the handle.

Poker Party Snack Plates

Go all in at your next poker party with handcrafted plates decorated with real playing cards.

Supplies:
9” or larger lear glass plates
Laser color copies of playing cards
Decoupage glue
Disposable paintbrushes
Silver metallic spray paint
Clear spray varnish
Scissors

Steps:
1. Trim the around the laser color copies of the cards.

2. Flip the glass plate over and apply decoupage glue to the front of the card copies. Place the color copied card (color side down) onto the glue in the desired position. Apply more decoupage to the back of the card. Use you finger to press out any air bubbles. Use the same technique to add additional cards to your plate if you desire.

3. Once dry, use blue painters’ tape to tape off the edge of the plate to the front only to prevent any overspray when you spray the back of the plate.

4. Working on old newspapers, turn the plate upside down and apply 3 coats of silver metallic spray paint. Allow to dry and top coat with a few coats of clear spray varnish. Allow the varnish to dry. Remove the painters’ tape.

5. Not suitable for a dishwasher. Please hand wash with care and don’t soak in water.

Drink Charms & Poker Night Stir Sticks

Drink charms can be made with laser copies of playing cards that have been shrunk down or with small cards found at toy stores. Laminate them, add a small scrapbooking eyelet, thread them onto circular ear wires or cocktail charm blanks, and add some beads.

You can make skewers or stirrers for your party by using the same dice drilling technique we used to make the dice bracelet to thread dice and beads onto a cocktail stirrer or skewer and secure with glue.

Jumbo Card Note Pad

Here’s the deal: cute, easy-to-make note pads will help keep your important info from getting all shuffled around.

Supplies:
2 jumbo cards
Hole punch
4 grommets
Grommet setter and hammer
Two hinged notebook O-rings
Scratch or scrapbook paper
Hole punch

Steps:
1. Punch two holes in the left side of each of the cards. The holes should be approximately .5” from the edge. Attach a grommet into each of the holes using a grommet setter and a hammer.

2. Trim the scratch or scrapbook paper to fit slightly smaller than the cards. Align the paper with the cards and use a hole punch to punch holes in the top of the paper.

3. Form the pad by sandwiching the paper in between the cards and attach them all together with O-rings.

Pipe-Part Candlesticks: Patina Finish

With the right parts and a little know-how, plain pipes are transformed into distinctive candleholders that will help light up any room.

Materials:
3/4" lead pipe, 6" long
3/4" lead flange
3/4" lead coupling
Sophisticated Finishes Patina Antiquing Set (includes copper metallic surfacer and patina green antiquing solution)
foam brush
acrylic primer

1. The flange will become the base of the candlestick. Screw one end of the pipe to the flange and the other end to the coupling.

2. Use a foam brush to apply a coat of primer to all surfaces and let dry.

3. With a small brush, apply copper metallic surfacer to the candlestick. Once dry, apply a second coat, but do not let this coat dry completely.

4. When the second coat becomes tacky, use a small paintbrush to apply patina green antiquing solution. Let the solution drip completely down the candlestick; wait a few minutes for the color to change.

5. Place a candle in the candlestick holder; if the candle is too loose, wrap its base with a small piece of aluminum foil to secure the fit.

Washer Jewelry

An ordinary metal washer becomes a funky piece of jewelry with nothing more than decorative paper and glaze.

Materials:
large washer
origami or other decorative paper
scissors
Quick Hold craft glue
Diamond Glaze from Judikins
pencil
1 yd. leather cording
leather clasp
flat-nose pliers
large hole punch

1. Make a laser-printer copy of the decorative paper; only a laser-printed image will work with this project, as a laser image will prevent the colors from bleeding when the diamond glaze is applied.

2. Trace the washer on laser-printed paper. Use a craft knife to cut out first the center, then the complete washer.

3. Place the washer smooth side down and glue paper to the rough side using Quick Hold craft glue.

4. Apply diamond glaze to the top of the washer; use a wooden skewer to spread the glaze, being careful to cover the entire surface of the washer. Let dry for 24 hours.

5. Cut lacing to desired length, fold in half, feed the folded end through the center of the washer and loop loose ends through the folded end.

6. Feed both ends of the cording through a bead, and slide bead down to the washer.

7. Trim ends of the lacing to fit your neck; attach a jewelry clasp to the ends using flat-nosed pliers.

'70s Storage Locker

The '70s are making a comeback, and with this groovy storage locker decorated with lace trim, you’ll be packing in style.

Materials:
small footlocker
wide lace trim
thin rattail cord
tacky glue
scissors
dark red acrylic paint
acrylic primer
medium paintbrush
glazing medium
gold Rub N Buff

1. Tape off trunk hardware to protect from accidental paint drips.

2. In a bowl, mix white glue with water. Cut lace to fit edges, sides and top of trunk. Using a foam brush, apply glue directly to the trunk and attach lace.

3. Attach rattail cord to the trunk with glue mixture, creating decorative swirls, zigzags, patterns, etc. Use other pieces of lace to create flower shapes; just be sure to work on one side at a time (face up) and allow the strings to dry before moving to the next side.

4. Apply primer to entire trunk, making sure to really work the primer into the lace. Let dry overnight.

5. Apply red paint to the trunk; as with the primer, push the paint down into the lace and rattail cording. The process uses a large amount of paint, so make sure to allow a couple of days for the paint to dry.

6. Apply gold Rub N Buff to lace edges to bring out detail.

7. Remove the tape.

Chunky Gemstone Ring

A chunky bead can bead can easily transformed into a funky ring.

Materials:
12 mm stone, side-drilled through the center
sterling silver wire, 18- or 20-gauge
wire-cutters
round-nose jewelry pliers
mandrel

1. String and center stone on wire.

2. Fold wire in half with bead held in place at the center of the wire.

3. Place the stone on the mandrel at the appropriate size. Bend wire ends around the mandrel and loop around back through the bead (tape can be used to keep the stone in place).

4. Wrap wire ends around both "band" wires at the base of the stone to secure the stone. Wrap several times if needed. Once wrapped, using a wire cutter to snip off excess wire.

5. Using needle nose pliers to tuck in any sharp edges.

Velvet Stamped Shawl

Special techniques for stamping and sewing velvet makes working with this beautiful fabric easy and fun.

Materials:
1-1/2 yds. rayon velvet
1-1/2 yds. silky fabric lining (same width as the velvet)
iron
spray bottle
bold, patterned heat-resistant rubber stamps (must be clean)
pressing cloth
sewing machine
4 large decorative tassels
hand-sewing needles and pins
matching thread
tissue paper

Rayon- or silk-content velvet must be used to ensure quality results. This technique also works best with bold rubber-stamp designs; images that are deeply etched or have detailed line designs are not recommended because they do not imprint well.

1. Preheat iron on high and set for steam. Lightly mist the back of the velvet with water.

2. Place rubber stamp, stamp side up, on ironing surface. Lay fabric (velvet side down) on the stamp, place a pressing cloth on fabric and press hot iron to cloth. Hold for 10-20 seconds, lift iron and repeat as needed. Dry-cleaning is recommended.

3. Cut the lining and stamped velvet to the same size. Place the fabrics right sides together and stitch around the edges, leaving an opening for turning. Trim inside corners to remove excess fabric. Turn fabric right side out and whip-stitch the opening closed.

4. Hand-stitch tassels to the corners.

Tips for Sewing Velvet and Silk

1. Lay fabric with the velvet side up; place a sheet of tissue paper on top of the velvet. Place silk fabric on top of tissue paper, right side down. Pin the layers together, using silk pins every 1-1/2"-2" to prevent slipping while sewing.

2. Using a sewing machine (a #2 stitch works best), stitch around the outside of the fabrics, leaving an opening to turn fabrics right side out.

3. Trim away excess fabric around the seams.

4. Carefully tear away tissue paper to reveal a pucker-free seam.

marabou boa (to go around the outside of the pillow)

1. Remove any extra threads or tags from pillow.
2. Glue patches on pillow using Fabri-Tac .
3. Using needle and thread, whip-stitch marabou boa to pillow edge. If needed, trim off remaining boa; use a small amount of Fabri-Tac if boa ends shed.

Picket Fence Planter

You don’t need a backyard to grow fresh herbs. This picket fence planter box turns windows and balconies into personal farmers’ markets.

Materials:
planter box (we used a 24" x 6" x 7" box)
30 paint stir sticks
cream craft paint
DecoArt Antiquing Stain medium
paint brushes
3⁄4" finishing nails
hammer
pencil
ruler
potting soil
mint plants

1. Measure the box to determine how many paint stir sticks will be needed, assuming they are placed approximately 1" apart. Mark the placement of each stick on the box using a ruler and pencil.

2. Paint the planter and the sticks with a mixture of equal parts DecoArt Antiquing Stain medium and cream craft paint.

3. Place a stick flush against the work surface and against the planter. Mark the points on each stick where they will be nailed to the planter. We marked each stick at the 1-1/2" and the 5" mark.

4. Use a hammer to tap a finishing nail into each stick at the designated points.

5. Line up each stick with the marks on the planter and finish pounding the nail through, attaching the sticks to the planter. To line the ends up easily, place the end and center piece sticks first and fill in with the remaining sticks.

6. Fill the planter with potting soil and plant the mint. Water and enjoy watching your mint garden grow.

Organic Garden Markers

These aren’t your ordinary garden-variety markers. Using copper wires and a wood-burning tool, we add a creative touch to any garden.

Materials:
twigs or branches, purchased at a home décor store or found
coping saw
utility knife
pencil
wood burning tool
wood burning tip – fine point
decorative wood branding tips
22 gauge cooper wire
beads
jewelry wire cutters

1. Use a coping saw to cut branches in 1' lengths.

2. Approximately 7" from the end of each branch, using a utility knife, whittle layers from the branches. Continue whittling until there is a flat slant of planed wood exposed along 7" of each branch wide enough to fit lettering.

3. Write the name of the plant vertically on the exposed wood, leaving some space at the top and bottom for decorative branding. Use the wood burning tool and a fine tip to burn the letters into the wood.

4. Let the wood burning tool cool completely. Change the tip to a decorative branding tip and re-heat the tool. Brand the wood above and below the lettering.

5. Wrap copper wire three times around the top of the branches, above the lettering. Add a small loop at the end of the wire to prevent sharp ends. Add beads. Continue wrapping, being careful to place the wire between the letters, to keep the letters legible. Add more beads and wrap the wire three times at the bottom of the twig. Snip off excess wire. Add a small loop to prevent sharp ends.

Funky Garden Gloves and Apron

Spice up your garden attire with a little fabric paint and flowers.

Materials:
plain canvas apron
green fabric dye
green fabric paint, such as "Tulip Soft"
paint brushes
vinyl in three colors
small cup (or something else to use to trace a circle)
pen or pencil
scallop shears
sequins
small glass beads
embroidery floss
needle
scissors
pink ruffle lace trim
sewing machine
green garden gloves
pink fabric paint, such as "Tulip Soft"
yellow fabric paint, such as "Tulip Soft"
pearlizing medium
pencil with intact eraser
large rhinestone
jewel glue

1. Apron -- dye the apron green according to package instructions and let dry. Fabric dyes work best on natural fibers such as cotton and linen, as well as rayon. Blends such as cotton/polyester will also work, but, the resulting color will be lighter than indicated on the dye package. Most types of fabric dye will not work on 100% polyester fabrics.

2. Using a straight stitch on a sewing machine, attach lace trim along the top edge of the apron and fold under the ends. Use a needle that is appropriate for the type of fabric being sewn – we used a needle that can handle heavier fabrics.

3. Use a circular object to trace a circle on the back of the vinyl. Cut the circle out using scallop shears – the circle will become a flower. Thread a needle with embroidery floss and holding the flower in position, sew it down in the center, adding a sequin and a bead. If the apron has pockets, be sure to sew through just the top layer of the pocket. Repeat these steps to make two more flowers.

4. Paint stems for each flower with green fabric paint.

5. Gloves -- using a straight stitch on a sewing machine, attach lace to the cuff of each glove. Be sure to use the appropriate needle in your sewing machine – these gloves are suede; we used a leather needle.

6. Mix one part pearlizing medium to one part yellow fabric paint and paint a ring band across one of the glove fingers. Let the paint dry before gluing a large rhinestone to the center of the band.

7. Mix one part pearlizing medium to one part pink fabric paint. Use the tip of a pencil eraser to paint dots (a "pearl bracelet") across the wrist of the glove. Decorate the second glove to compliment the first glove. Let the paint dry completely before wearing the gloves.

Raspberry and Orange Smoothies

Reap the fruits of your labor with these delicious smoothies made with farm-fresh ingredients.

Ingredients:
2 medium oranges, peeled, cut into bite-size pieces (1 cup)
1 c. plain low-fat or nonfat yogurt
1 c. fresh or frozen raspberries
1 tbsp. honey
1 c. crushed ice

1. Place all ingredients, except ice, in a food processor or blender and process until smooth.

2. Add ice, blend briefly and serve.

This recipe makes 4 cups.

We are cutting things down to size. We are making a floral “mocktail” that’s brimming with flower power, sparkling vintage earring postcards, and mini-zucchini bread that’s not half-baked.

Mini Floral Celebration “Mocktails”- Great Gifts!

Try this fun, floral craft for a project that’s small in scale, but big on style.

Supplies:
Margarita Glass
Fresh flowers – 1 Large & 6-10 Small
Floral foam
Moss
Kitchen Knife
Floral Tape
Ribbon
Toothpick
“Happy Birthday” Scrapbook Tag
Paper Umbrella
Skewer

Steps:
1. Place moss around the inside rim of the margarita glass.

2. Use a kitchen knife to trim and shape the floral foam so that it fits inside the glass. Add more moss to disguise the foam.

3. Use your fingers to maneuver the moss around the foam so that only moss is peeking through the glass.

4. Add water to the foam, fill until saturated.

5. Working with the small flowers, trim the stems and place them around the rim of the glass.

6. Add the large flower to the center of the arrangement, trimming the stem so that it is the appropriate height for the glass.

7. Extend the length of the umbrella by trimming the pick just under the umbrella. Use floral tape to attach the umbrella top to the end of a bamboo skewer.

8. Thread a scrapbook tag onto 6” of ribbon. Poke a toothpick into both ends of the ribbon about 2” from the tag, trim excess. Use the floral tape to secure ribbon ends & camouflage the toothpick. Poke the toothpick into the floral arrangement.

Rhinestone Earrings on a Vintage Card

Gorgeous rhinestone earrings get a backdrop of vintage girlie-glam.

Supplies:
Vintage postcard with a girly image
Decorative edge scissors
Tacky glue
Thin paintbrush
Ultra fine glitter
Rhinestones
Letter stamps
Ink pads – several colors
Two flat pad ear studs with drop
Crystal beads
Headpins
Round nose jewelry pliers
Jewelry glue
Small piece of styrofoam
Sewing pin
Cello bag

Steps:
1. Copy your postcard onto cardstock (optional). Trim around the image with decorative edge scissors.

2. Apply ultra fine glitter and rhinestones to the card with tacky glue. For extra control, use a thin paintbrush to apply the glue.Work over an open manila folder when applying the glitter, so that you can funnel any excess back into the glitter tube.

3. With letter stamps, spell the word “pretty” at the top of the card. Use a different color of stamp ink for each letter. We like to mix letters from different sets to achieve a collage look.

4. Making the earrings: Create a dangle by sliding a crystal bead onto a head pin. Trim off the excess wire, leaving roughly 3/8”, and make a loop with round nose pliers. Attach the loop to the drop on the earring backing. Glue a rhinestone onto the earring backing with jewel glue. Repeat for second earring. Allow to dry. You can use a scrap piece of styrofoam to stabilize the earrings as you work on them and to hold them still while they dry.

5. Poke two holes in the card where you want to place the earrings with a straight pin (or sewing needle, safety pin, or anything else thin and sharp). Stick the earrings in the holes and add the backings.

6. Slide the card into a cello bag and it’s ready to give as a gift.

Mini Zucchini Bread

We put the teeny in zucchini with our secret recipe for delicious zucchini bread.

Supplies:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs, slightly beaten
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon freshly grated lemon peel
1 cup, packed, shredded zucchini (approximately 4 small zucchinis)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Steps:
1. Grease and flour 2- 5 3/4 x 3 x 2 -inch loaf pans; set aside.

2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together flour, ginger, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Add oil, eggs, lemon juice and peel, shredded zucchini, and chopped walnuts.

3. Stir to blend. Do not over mix.

4. Spoon batter into the prepared loaf pans, each about ¾ full. Bake at 350° for 40-45 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean.

5. Cool zucchini bread in pan on wire rack for 10 minutes. Turn zucchini bread out of pan and cool completely on rack.

6. After the bread is cool, insert each loaf into a cello bag and wrap with a sleeve of natural paper or kraft paper. Add punches and a ribbon with a tag. A recipe card can also be added

Steps:
1. Use the mini envelope punch and create a mini envelope by punching through the paper.

2. Fold the envelope into position and use a glue stick to attach the sides.

3. Trim the other scrap of paper to fit inside the envelope

4. Write a message on the paper with a fine tip pen, slide into the envelope.

It’s a blast from the past with 70’s style rock art that combines color, shape and texture.

Supplies:
¼” thick plywood (cut to desired size)
¾ ” thick molding (enough to go around the plywood)
Saw
Miter box
Wood putty
Putty knife
Wood embroidery hoops (different sizes according to your design)
Small aquarium pebbles (different colors)
Natural pebbles
E6000 glue
Large amount of Mod-Podge
Craft paint
Paintbrushes
Finishing nails & hammer
Picture Hanger

Steps:

1. Use a saw and miter box to cut mitered edges into the molding to create a frame for the plywood. Attach the molding to the outside edges of the plywood with finishing nails.

2. Fill any gaps between the plywood and frame with wood putty, using a putty knife. Apply a small amount of putty around the perimeter of the plywood where it meets the molding frame. Allow the putty to dry.

3. Paint the frame and paint the plywood interior a color that will match your rocks.

4. We will only be using the inside hoop of the embroidery hoop. Discard the hoop with the screw. Paint each of the hoops with craft paint (according to your desired design) and allow to dry.

5. Stagger the painted hoops on the plywood until you get a design you like. Use E6000 glue and glue them in place. You can cut the hoops with kitchen shears to remove a portion and create an interlocking effect with another hoop.

6. Fill the hoops with colored aquarium rocks. Fill in the rest of the plywood with the natural pebbles until the entire base of the plywood is filled in.

7. Pour decoupage medium over the entire surface of the artwork, spreading with a paintbrush. Brush the decoupage medium over the frame to give it a uniform sheen.

8. Allow the decoupage medium to dry flat for 2 weeks. Attach a picture hanger to the back and hang or use flat as table décor. If hanging on the wall, use an anchor to support the weight.

Supplies:
10” garden drip tray
Old spoon
Mixing bucket
Quikrete sand/toping mix
1 small piece of screening—slightly smaller than the drip tray
Popsicle stick
Water
Work gloves (optional)
Petroleum jelly
Embellishments: marbles, pebbles/stones, shells, beads, flat marble/gems, Small mosaic tiles, beach glass, stained glass, special mementos/souvenirs

Steps:
1. Make sure you are working in an area where the stepping-stone can stay for 3 days undisturbed. Protect you work surface.

2. Place the plastic drip pans on your work surface. Rub a large amount of petroleum jelly to the bottom and sides of the pan.

3. Mix 5 parts concrete to 1 part water, mix until it looks like cookie dough – not watery. You may need to add more water or more Quikrete to get the desired consistency.

4. Spoon the concrete it into the mold about half full and smooth it down. Lay your cut piece of screening into the mold and then finish scooping the cement into the mold until full. Gently tap around the outside of your mold to help remove any air bubbles and also to help even out the top. If you’re going to write in the concrete or if you are adding a hand or footprint, allow the concrete to set for 30 minutes to two hours—the time will depend on how moist the mix is. Make sure it’s set enough to make a clean impression.

5. Add the decorative embellishments immediately after filling the tray or after 30 minutes to two hours. If you make a mistake, you can simply remove the items, flatten out the top with the side of a Popsicle stick or spoon, tap the sides to smooth, and start over again!

6. Your stepping stone must now sit for 2 - 3 days without being disturbed - do not move it. Once it is dry, you can gently pop it out of the mold.

Small shallow pot or dishy
3 stalks of “lucky bamboo” (Dracaena) – different heights
Cable tie
Small polished garden stones
Distilled water

Lucky Bamboo Steps:
1. Use a cable tie to secure the 3 dracaena stalks together, towards the base of the stalks. Trim the ends of the cable tie.

2. Place the bound dracaena stalks in the center of the pot and secure with small rocks around the stalks. Water with distilled water. Change the water every 10 days.

For the Firefly:
½ lime

1. To make the Firefly: squeeze half of a lime into your lowball glass over ice. Pour in 1 ounce of dark rum; fill the glass halfway with ginger beer, and top with a dash or rock candy syrup. Stir

For the Lemon Daisy:

½ lemon
Lemon-lime soda
Grenadine
Club soda
Rock candy syrup—made by dissolving 2 parts sugar in 1 part water on the stovetop

2. To make the Lemon Daisy: squeeze half a lemon into you highball glass over ice. Fill the glass halfway with lemon-lime soda. Add a splash each of club soda, grenadine and rock candy syrup.

New twist on Coffee Filiter Flowers.

I have been making coffee filter flowers with kids for years! We showcased a version of them using food coloring to dye them on episode 110 of Creative Juice. Now we are using paint and glitter paint to add the bold pop of color to the flowers. For the vase we recycled a chip can. The can was coated in Mod Podge, wrapped with paper and decorated with Popsicle sticks and paper flowers. Let's Make!

For the Vase:

Flower Print Scrapbook Paper 12X12
Chip Tube - Cleaned (Pringles works well)
Scissors
Ruler and Pencil
Foam Paintbrush
Mod Podge ® Matte
2 Wood Popsicle Sticks
FolkArt ® Acrylic Colors - Citrus Green
Craft Glue
Paper Flowers, Buttons, Scrap Ribbons

Steps:

1. Wrap the scrapbook paper around the cleaned chip can. Trim the paper to fit around the can with a little over hang on the ends. Coat the back of the paper with Mod Podge. Position the paper on the chip can. Top-coat with a coat of Mod Podge. Use your fingers to press out any air bubbles. Smooth your brushstrokes. Allow to dry.

2. Paint the Popsicle sticks Citrus Green. Allow to dry. Cut one of the sticks in half. Glue the sticks to the chip can in the style of flower stems.

3. Glue flowers and buttons to the flower stems. Glue ribbon around the top of the chip can.

For the Flowers

Scrap Ribbon Coffee Filters (2 per flower)
Wax paper
FolkArt ® Extreme Glitter™ - Turquoise
FolkArt ® Artists Pigments™ - Aqua
Foam Paintbrush
Bamboo Skewer (1 per flower)
Green Yarn (1/2 yard per flower)
Instructions

Steps:

1. For each flower you will need to paint two coffee filters. Open and flatten the filters. Place them on wax paper. Dry-brush paint the flowers. Begin with a small amount of Aqua paint on your brush. Lightly paint the filters working from the inside of the circle to the outer edge. Leave white spaces to add highlights to the flowers.

2. Add glitter highlights by randomly painting a coat of Turquoise Extreme Glitter over the filters.

Place the two filters wrong-sides together. Pierce the center with the bamboo skewer. Slide the filters to almost the end of the skewer. Add a drop of glue and scrunch the filters to form a flower.

Tie a piece of yarn around the bottom of the flower. Wrap the yarn around the base of the flower and to the skewer-stem, tie the end in a knot to secure.

Fresh Pasta, Jumbo Shrimp and Garlic

(Sorry this picture is not that good....we didn't have time for a good photo shoot! Our bellies were calling....)

This has been a staple for us for a few years now. We always look for specials on fresh shrimp at our local grocer - sometimes we are blown away by the deals. (We get lobster tails too!) I have tried this with frozen shrimp and have had outstanding results. I like to keep a bag of frozen shrimp in the freezer for those nights when we want something delicious and quick.

What you will need:
Fresh Pasta - 1 pkg - 9oz.
1 Pound Jumbo Shrimp
1/4 cup butter
Olive Oil - drizzles
Crushed Garlic - 8 cloves
Dried or Fresh Parsley - 2 pinches
Italian Seasoning - small palm-full
Parmesan Cheese
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Optional: red pepper flakes

Fresh Angel Hair Pasta

cleaned & devained jumbo shrimp

Let's Cook!  

Heat the butter on med.
Cook the shrimp until it turns pink and begins to coil.

Follow the package instruction for cooking the pasta.
Fresh angel hair pasta cooks quick! About 2 minutes only.
Drain when done, drizzle with olive oil to prevent sticking.

We are becoming a big fans of Fresh & Easy olive oils.

Add garlic and herbs. Stir to combine.

Combine the cooked pasta with the shrimp.

Drizzle with olive oil.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Fill each plate or pasta bowl with the pasta portion,

top with shrimp and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Cascarones for Easter!

A traditional Mexican craft, cascarones are easy to make and fun to decorate. They’re great for Easter, special occasions or anytime you’re looking for a lucky project. To bring luck, crack the egg on top of a friend’s head.

Supplies:

Food Coloring or Egg Dye
Plastic Cups
Water
Raw Eggs (one each)
Large Needle
Bamboo Skewer
Wire cooling Rack
Confetti
Tape
Mod Podge
Craft Paint
Gems
Ribbon scraps
Hot glue
Hot Glue Gun Helpers
Square Piece of Paper (one each)

Steps:

1. Create a dye bath: add a few drops of food/ egg coloring into the plastic cups. Add 1 cup of warm water to each cup. Add the eggs to the dye bath for about 2-3 minutes, or until the desired color is reached. Allow to dry.

2. Use the large needle to make a hole in one end of the egg. Gently pierce the egg until the opening is about the size of a penny. Insert the skewer into the egg and stir. This will break up the egg and make it easier to empty the contents. Rinse out the egg and invert onto the rack for drying.

3. Stuff the egg with confetti. Seal the hole on the egg with a piece of tape.

4. Add embellishments to the eggs: Mod Podge confetti, hot glue ribbons, paint designs or glue gems. * Use Hot Glue Gun Helpers so you don't burn your fingers *

5. Roll the square paper into a funnel/party horn shape. Secure the edges with Hot Glue. Hot glue fun trim or ribbons around the paper funnel. Glue the egg to the horn by applying a bead of hot glue around the inside rim of the horns and placing the egg (tape side goes in the paper funnel) on the end of the paper funnel.

6. Crack the egg on top of a friend’s head for good luck.

Mod Podge project from Creative Juice

Color, shape and texture are key factors when it comes to this d.i.y. art made with aquarium pebbles and embroidery hoops. The pebbles are available in a wide variety of colors, so this design can be customized to any color palette.

Supplies:
¼” thick plywood (cut to desired size)
¾ ” thick molding (enough to go around the plywood)
Saw
Miter box
Wood putty
Putty knife
Wood embroidery hoops (different sizes according to your design)
Small aquarium pebbles (different colors)
Natural pebbles
E6000 glue
Large amount of Mod Podge
FolkArt Craft paint
Paintbrushes
Finishing nails & hammer
Picture Hanger

Let's Make!

1. Use a saw and miter box to cut mitered edges into the molding to create a frame for the plywood. Attach the molding to the outside edges of the plywood with finishing nails. Fill any gaps between the plywood and frame with wood putty, using a putty knife. Apply a small amount of putty around the perimeter of the plywood where it meets the molding frame. Allow the putty to dry.

2. Paint the frame and paint the plywood interior a color that will match your rocks.

3. Hoops: We will only be using the inside hoop of the embroidery hoop. Discard the hoop with the screw. Paint each of the hoops with craft paint (according to your desired design) and allow to dry.

4. Stagger the painted hoops on the plywood until you get a design you like. Use E6000 glue and glue them in place. You can cut the hoops with kitchen shears to remove a portion and create an interlocking effect with another hoop.

5. Fill the hoops with colored aquarium rocks. Fill in the rest of the plywood with the natural pebbles until the entire base of the plywood is filled in.

6. Pour decoupage medium over the entire surface of the artwork, spreading with a paintbrush. Brush the decoupage medium over the frame to give it a uniform sheen.

Materials:
4025 - FolkArt ® Enamels™ - Cobalt, 2 oz.
4039 - FolkArt ® Enamels™ - Calypso Sky, 2 oz.
4065 - FolkArt ® Enamels™ - Cayman Blue, 2 oz.
3 small long neck glass vases
Wax paper

Steps:
1. Wash and dry the glasses vases. Be sure the inside is dry before you begin painting.

2. Pour half a bottle of paint into each vase. Use one color per vase.

3. Swirl the paint around until the entire base of the vase is filled in with color.

4. Turn the vases upside down on a piece of wax paper. This will allow the paint to drizzle down the neck of the vase. Check every few hours to see if the paint is pooling. Replace the wax paper as needed. Keep upside down for twelve hours.

5. Allow the paint to dry and re-coat if needed.

Did ya'll know that I worked at Jo-Ann Fabrics during high school and college? I started when I was 16 years old and I still have my name tag pinned to my bulletin board 24 years later! They almost didn't hire me! They were afraid I wouldn't be able to read patterns, sell sewing machines or help customers with fabric selections. I proved them wrong when I demanded a test and ended up knowing more about sewing than the manager. (LOL)

Yep, that's me in the middle with
blond hair and a metallic-blue bubble dress!

They didn't know that I had started sewing with patterns at 8 and by the time I was sixteen, I was designing clothing and making party dresses for anyone who would wear them. At the time, I was the youngest employee that store had ever had. I worked at the same store until I graduated from College. I even got a ruby pin to celebrate my 5 years!

The way I got hired is an inspiring story about cold calling and believing in yourself. Over the past few years, I have given many seminars and speeches on being a creative entrepreneur and the tale of 16-year old me getting hired at JAS, almost always starts the dialogue. I'll save that for another post.

A few months ago, I was contacted by the publicity department to help with their Spring National Craft Month Campaign! I was trilled beyond belief and so honored to be included with my other creative friends. Each three-sided display is located in every Jo-Ann Fabrics store across America and is loaded with free craft projects sheets that you can take with you. The projects are also available online. For this design, I used hem tape to create romantic ruffles. I just LOVE the colors of Wrights hem tape. They’re flirty, feminine and fabulous! Ruffles are one of my hot trend predictions for spring. Steps:
1. Paint the canvases with the Parisian Pink paint. Once dry, using the silkscreen squeegee; drag the simple screen cosmopolitan paint across the canvas. Don't worry about the coverage. You want to create a deconstructed look.

2. Once the paints are dry, position one stencil in the center of the canvas. If needed use masking tape to secure the sides of the stencil.

3. Squeeze a long thick bead of black paint across the top of the stencil. Using your squeegee at a 45 degree angle and even pressure, pull a thin coat of paint down the stencil until the entire design is covered. Allow to dry.

4. Peel the stencil to reveal your design. Wash the stencil with cold water. Don't scrub the sticky side. Once the stencil is dry, replace onto the backing sheet.

5. Hot glue ribbon around the outer edge of the canvas.

Steps:
1. Working in equal parts, blend together the pink and seashell pink paint. Paint the metal flower container with the blended pink paint. Add a second coat if needed. Once Dry, loosely paint the top of the container with the Light Lavender paint. Keep your brush strokes soft and not perfect for a vintage look. Using a small round paintbrush, paint small black dots onto the container.

2. Blend together the 1 part glazing medium with 1 part taffy paint. Using a cotton rag, apply the taffy glaze over the entire container. This will create a soft vintage look.

3. Cut out the front from the seed packet. Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the center of the container. Apply Mod Podge to the back of the seed packet, position onto the container and topcoat with a layer of Mod Podge. Use your fingers to press out any air bubbles. Smooth your brush strokes. Allow to dry for 12 hours.

4. Add two coats of outdoor gloss sealer to the entire container. Once dry, hot glue a decorative ribbon across the top of the container and a flower and rhinestone near the decoupaged seed packet.

Mod Podge Gloss
Tea Light Holder
Seed Packet
Rhinestones
Hot Glue Gun

Steps:
1. Cut out the front from the seed packet. Trim to fit the front of the tea light holder.

2. Apply a thin coat of Mod Podge to the center of the tea light holder. Apply Mod Podge to the back of the seed packet, position onto the tea light holder and topcoat with a layer of Mod Podge. Use your fingers to press out any air bubbles. Smooth your brush strokes. Allow to dry for 12 hours.

3. Using hot glue, add rhinestones to highlight the seed packet.
